Items to Have

Even though you may not need a particular item at this moment, it doesn’t hurt to be prepaid and to have it stored away.

•  Crate/Kennel
•  Playpen (to keep puppy in when you can’t monitor him/her)
•  Two Stainless Steel Bowls or Ceramic Bowls
•  16 oz Shampoo/Conditioner Curved Slicker Brush Puppy Kong
•  Cat (Quick Release) Collar
•  Puppy Harness
•  Puppy Leash
•  Fleece Bed (or any dog bed that offers warmth)
•  Flea/tick Preventive
•  Tooth Brush/ Tooth Paste (Or spray on products such as Leba III)
•  More toys (the louder the sound is the better trainable the puppy becomes)
•  Pee Pee Pads (I personal use reusable ones)
•  Karo Syrup AND Nutrical (to help against low blood sugar)
•  Doggy Stairs
•  Blankets

Why these items are important for a puppy: It is always best to start crate training with a puppy rather than an older dog. With it’s divider panel, a crate offers the flexibility of increasing the interior size as the puppy grows.

You want a quick release cat collar, because toy dogs are prone to trachea issues. This collar will break away if it gets snag, limiting the pressure that is applied to the puppy’s neck. But it’s safe enough for you to hang the rabies tag and identity tags.

All young puppies should be provided chew toys. As their adult teeth come in, they will have theurge to chew on everything in the home, including biting you. The more chew toys available, the less likely they’ll chew on things they aren’t supposed to.
